Software trends

By Alen

Software trends

The pandemic Covid-19 also affected the software industry, which contributed many innovations and breakthroughs; this year, these processes will continue – here, we present some essential trends predicted by various analytical companies and institutions.

Dominance of clouds

Last year, cloud computing became ubiquitous. The pandemic Covid -19 has shown that we need the cloud because of business growth and when business is shrinking due to reduced demand. The tourism industry and passenger transport, for example, need to maintain their data centers despite a more than 90% decline in inactivity.

Cloud computing became ubiquitous

Real-time streaming and processing

In recent years, real-time streaming has become increasingly popular. That is especially true for companies that opt for batch flow processing frameworks instead of traditional architectures. They have two frames to choose from – a micro packet platform or a platform for processing streams with a short transition time. All leading cloud providers also offer solutions that provide high levels of real-time stream processing capabilities.

The rise of voice trading

Voice trading – that is, performing sales and shopping activities through voice commands – is one of the latest IT trends in the software industry. Google Home and Amazon Echo are very active in the market. Technology is becoming popular because it allows control of devices without touching and managing them, even when moving.

OC&C Strategy Consultants estimates that consumers spent more than $ 29 billion on voice shopping in the US last year alone. This year, we can expect further growth in voice trading and the development of new applications that support it.

Expansion of edge computing

In addition to centralizing data and computing power in public cloud data centers, companies are increasingly using the opposite scenario – edge computing, where data and computing power are close to the end-user.

The growth in the number of connected autonomous cars and airplanes, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, smart devices, online gaming devices, artificial intelligence and machine learning (UI / SU) solutions, and new 5G mobile devices will create a vast market this year and in the years to come.

On the one hand, large public cloud providers will fight for market power and more and more powerful edge infrastructure providers such as telecom operators, local data center providers, and network providers. But, on the other hand, the offer and use of multi-cloud solutions, which combine different types of clouds and various cloud services, will also be strengthened.

Kubernetes as a giant of containerization

Application management containerization has become a core IT technology in the cloud, both public and private. The leading management and container orchestration technology are Kubernetes Service, introduced by Google a few years ago. Today, it is offered as part of their containerization services by almost all major public cloud providers as well as RedHat in the private cloud. This year, Kubernetes is expected to become a core component in third-party hybrid cloud and multi-cloud strategies.

Blockchain from cryptocurrencies to digital infrastructures

We have seen many innovations in blockchain technology over the past decade. This became known thanks to the digital currency bitcoin, and now its use is expanding to other areas such as finance, health services, logistics, software development, and others. Analytical firm IDC, for example, predicts that in 2030, 45 percent of the largest food companies will use blockchain-based food traceability solutions.

Last but not least, China’s decision to include this technology in its € 510 billion plan to deploy new digital infrastructures across the country, including 5G networks, artificial intelligence, IoT systems, long-distance high-speed trains, and R&D, will give a strong impetus to the blockchain. Institutions.

Democratization of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has helped a lot in the last year to adapt to new conditions. This year, we can expect a breakthrough in the use of natural language processing for writing articles as well as composing smaller programs. We are also expected to make significant progress in the development of integrated UI automation. Since AI is not impartial, we can expect its democratization and the development of an “ethical AI.”

After the six European IM associations have jointly developed guidelines for IM regulation in the EU, we can expect faster development of new solutions. In addition, UI will gain an essential role in the aviation industry this year – the US Air Force has recently used UI as a co-pilot to manage the flight. Finally, in China, AI has officially gained a central place in developing digitally based infrastructures for the future. In short, we can expect many remarkable innovations in the field of IM this year.

Advancement of low-code or code-free initiative

The rapid digital transformation is creating a massive shortage of programmers, which is why the Low Code / No Code (LCNC) initiative has gained momentum in recent years. Namely, several low-code or code-free platforms have appeared on the market, mainly intended for web development. Their success paved the way for the development of LCNC solutions in applications, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. This year, we can expect the LCNC initiative to stimulate many innovations, acquisitions, and mergers.

Coexistence of different architectures

In recent years, micro-service architecture has become popular in developing enterprise applications, but it is more complex than monolithic architecture. Serverless architecture has been established that allows a programmer to write code while a service provider provides a server.

Demand for home applications

Last year, many companies created their original or domestic applications for communication and collaboration. The trend will accelerate this year and will also start covering the areas of banking, multimedia, and e-commerce.

Large companies prefer mobile applications and mobile communication channels, mainly because almost three billion devices with the Android operating system and close to a billion and a half devices with the iOS system are already in use. These devices are equipped with a wide variety of mobile and web applications, so, understandably, the trend of developing their applications will only intensify this year and in the years to come.

Video games and related products

The video game market has declined somewhat due to the pandemic. However, in its study on video game software 2020-2030, analytical company Research and Markets predicts that software development will be one of this year’s major trends, and demand for video games will grow solidly in the coming years. In 2023, the video game market is expected to reach a value of $ 223.2 billion.

Bionics to improve people

This year we will witness the accelerated development of solutions to improve the human body, says Aleksey Makarov, founder of software development company Qulix Systems. Human 2.0 technologies are currently designed to restore lost abilities (such as hearing or vision), and in the future, they will also be used to improve human organs.

Experts predict the development of a bionic exoskeleton (developed by the military industry), an improvement in natural abilities (hearing, vision, physical strength), and cheap implants for managing gadgets and devices.

In addition, technological enhancements have recently become popular among software developers. The US military, for example, is testing various bionic exoskeletons and appropriate software solutions.

Security as a barrier to the use of new tools

One of the latest trends in the ICT industry is the development of extensive data processing systems. Experts pay special attention to in-memory processing tools without recording the results after each calculation. So-called batch data frame processing will be viral in social media, document processing, text analysis, media flows, climate research, and treatment research. Recently, cyber security has emerged as a problem with big data, which can become an obstacle to introducing new tools. This year, the latest technologies in software development are expected to address this issue.
